My work in this area is pending paperwork and approval. Once that happens, I should be able to set up groups and some individual sessions in this modality.
Dance Movement Therapy is “the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.” My own approach is primarily developmental and trauma-informed. I’ve worked with a wide range of psychiatric clients, differently learning children, Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, and people with Parkinson’s.
Sessions consist of check-in, movement warmup, development of a theme for the day in movement, and verbal processing. Dance movement therapy is an effective modality for addressing trauma, challenges, depression, anxiety, and cognitive issues.
