Dance Movement Therapy is “the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.” My own approach is primarily developmental and trauma-informed. I’ve worked with a wide range of psychiatric clients, differently learning children, Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, and people with Parkinson’s.
Sessions consist of check-in, movement warmup, development of a theme for the day in movement, and verbal processing. Dance movement therapy is an effective modality for addressing trauma, challenges, depression, anxiety, and cognitive issues.
I currently run groups at the Old School in Musquodoboit Harbour and individual sessions in private locations.
